Equanimity of Action
Opt-In is all about erasing the distinction between work and leisure.
Life involves action and being, and we can do and not do in a state of ease.
I suggest we take the chores as easily as the leisure activities.
I offer that rest, simply being, has an important role, and we probably need and will naturally tend toward more than we have been coached by this culture to think is "ok."
As soon as I teach this principle, clients want to use it as a productivity tool. This is the depth of the programming we are facing.
They ask "ok so if the actions I'm taking are in a state of leisure, what about when I want to take a break? Does that mean that I'm not doing the actions in a relaxed enough state, if it should feel like leisure and I still want to take a break?"
The point of erasing this distinction between work and play is not so that work becomes such play that we can do more of it (though that can happen) but so that the actions and the rest come into balance with one another in our value system.
With equanimity in our value system, we are able to identify the authentic desires of the body. We act when we feel moved to act and we rest when we feel moved to rest. This is what it means, in the here and now, to be free from all forms of tyranny.
We are not trying to get it all done or trying to get enough rest, we stop trying at all. We trust the opt-in we cultivate through practices (like momentum, somatic expression, attention to the 3 P's of Prosperity) which put us in relationship with every here and now.
Treating rest and action as though they have equal value, honoring the body's desire for rest and trusting in the body's desire for action, we cultivate holistic opt-in which fills our body, home, and community with peace.
