Magic Has a Cost
"Now they know they're infinitely powerful, they know how to create anything they want." She was summing up the graduation of her students from a training program.
"Funny how it's so much easier to teach than it is to live moment to moment." She was making a joke at her expense. Like all of us who teach the deepest truths, she feels assailed by her own hypocrisy.
"Yes," I say, like how I talk to the hypocrite in myself, "but in real life, magic has a cost." Knowing the truth doesn't make it easy to live in the truth, and that's one of the most important things we can know if we teach truth.
In the fairytales, the witch works a powerful spell of protection over her son and finds her daughter dead the next day; it is only that obvious in fiction.
In life it is more obvious, and more hidden for it.
Obviously, manifesting the relationship of your dreams will cost you the person you're with, someone you love, a life you have built, something *almost* right. So obviously, that couldn't be the cost. The cost must be some other suffering, then I can manifest it *with them.*
Magic empowers us to create anything. Magic is the process of being the living embodiment of the life you desire to have. Magic is alignment to a specific tone, and every alarm is something else. If you're willing to resolve alarms, you're willing to be outside of your magical power to sing the tone.
Your magic is in choosing for yourself what of this sacred life will have your attention. Your attention is how you choose for yourself, and the magic is, you can choose anything.
And all magic costs you something. Every choice costs you every other choice. Opportunity cost, and sometimes the cost of a steady resource for the opportunity for "something better."
Yes, you can work precise magic in the world, and no, it will never look precisely as you imagined it, yet one day you will wake within it and it will be precisely as you imagined. You will be so far into having it, you won't be able to pinpoint when you received it. You will be so far into having it, you'll have forgotten it was the original aim.
It will have cost unimaginable things. You may recall being swept away by the costs, being accosted by costs, wondering why it was all happening.
Now, you know.
